Bakuchiol facial serum
Bakuchiol is usually described as a plant alternative to retinol. That is roughly right — and worth being precise about.
What bakuchiol is
Bakuchiol is a plant-derived compound whose effects on skin have been compared with retinol in published work. It is not a retinoid chemically; the similarity is in the reported outcome, not in the molecule.
In practice, the reason people reach for it is tolerance: it is generally better tolerated than retinol, including by people who cannot use retinoids, and it does not carry retinol usage restrictions.
