Choosing a facial water
The toner step is the one most often either skipped or done for the wrong reason. It is worth understanding what it is actually for.
What a facial water does
A modern facial water is not there to „remove the last of the dirt“ — if your cleanser leaves dirt behind, change the cleanser. Its job is to rehydrate the skin surface after cleansing and prepare it for what comes next, which absorbs better into skin that is still damp.
What to avoid on the label
Denatured alcohol high in the list
It gives a fast matte finish and a barrier you pay for later.
A long fragrance list
On reactive skin, this is the usual cause of the reaction blamed on the active.
„Tightening“ as a promise
That sensation is dehydration, not an effect.
How to use it
Onto damp skin straight after cleansing, by hand or on a pad without dragging, and then the next step while it is still damp. Once a day is enough for most people; twice if your skin likes it.
