Cream for cracked heels
Cracked heels are a moisture and keratin problem, not a cosmetic one. Here is what actually helps and what to look for on a label.
What urea does
Urea is both a humectant and a keratolytic: at low concentrations it binds water in the skin, and at higher concentrations it also helps soften and shed hardened keratin. That is why a foot product uses a much higher percentage than a face cream.
20% urea is the range normally used for thickened, cracked heels. Below roughly 10% the effect is mainly hydrating; above that the softening effect becomes the point.
How it is used
Apply to clean, dry feet
Evening application works best because the product stays on.
Be consistent
Cracked heels took weeks to build; they take weeks to go.
Do not file aggressively
Softening first and filing lightly beats filing hard on dry skin.
A note on claims
This is a cosmetic product for the care of dry and cracked skin, not a medicine. If a crack is bleeding, infected or painful, that is a matter for a podiatrist or a doctor.
