Beard balm and oil
Balm and oil do different jobs. Most people who say beard care does not work for them are using only one of the two.
Balm or elixir
Beard balm
Heavier, with waxes and butters. Conditions and gives light hold, so it also tames the direction the hair grows.
Beard elixir
A light oil that goes to the skin underneath. That is where beard itch and flaking actually come from.
Short beard: oil is usually enough. Longer beard: oil first for the skin, balm after for the hair.
How to use it
On a damp beard
After a shower, towel dry, then apply.
Down to the skin
Work it in with fingertips before combing through.
Daily
Beard care is maintenance, not rescue.
